“Well if I replace the caps then the amp isn’t all original any more”. I hear this all the time. While I am in agreement I have to say that it is better to have new electrolytic capacitors in your amp than to have them blow up, short and possibly damage a transformer. Then you will have an amp with replaced caps, resistors and a transformer! Which scenario is better? There are many benefits to having new electrolytic caps in your amp besides reliability. The amp will sounds clearer, have defined bottom end, more musical sounding (harmonic content) and the overall feel will be lively and dynamic. So if you have an amp with electrolytic capacitors that are more than about 10 years old I would suggest replacing them. It is not a very expensive repair and will save you money in the long run. Your tone with thank you for it!!!
