Hi everybody. First let me express my sympathy to anyone who has suffered any type of loss from hurricane Sandy. I live and have my shop in Toms River, NJ and I can tell you it is a mess down here. I have to say however my family and I are very lucky. The worst for us was not having power for about 30 hours. No major tree damage, house damage, flooding or, vehicle damage. We definitely dodged a bullet for sure. I know many of you here at the Jersey Shore have been devastated judging by the photos and news reports.
Any musicians that had their gear get wet or flooded because of the storm should take note. Do not turn on any amplifiers or electric/electronic equipment. There is a very good chance that you will do major damage to your gear. Your guitars are another story. Remove them from their cases immediately and let them dry out as much as you can. Do not force the drying with hair dryers or heat guns. A fan set on a low or medium setting blowing across the instrument is okay. Just be careful and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me and I will try to help.
I am offering a free guitar & amplifier check-up for any gear that has been in a flood. After the dust settles (or the water recedes is more like it) please contact me to bring in any of your flooded gear and we’ll take a look at it together and make an assessment.
Again my heartfelt sympathy goes out to everyone who has suffered loss down here at the Jersey Shore. Eventually all will be re-built and things will get back to a new version of normal.
