Ok, listen up jazz peeps. If you like high quality, hand crafted archtop guitars you should check out Ron Smith Guitars. I had the pleasure of meeting the man himself and playing his fine guitars at the Great Americal Guitar Show. These are finely crafted instruments constructed from hand selected materials chosen for tone. Each model I played sounded warm and dynamic and felt very comfortable to play. Even the large 17″ body guitars felt totally manageable and sat nicely in your lap. The neck profiles filled your hand but were not overly large and the width of the fretboard made chording and single note lines effortless.
Smith has been building guitars for about 11 years now and actually started out by building a bass model for a friend. He then built another bass for himself and said “why not build a guitar”? Since then he has been building all types of guitars including 7-string models, single cutaway models and double cutaway models along with bass guitars which also sounded awesome at his booth.
Ron is building full time now and is dedicating all of his focus, energy and passion into his craft. If you want a truly hand crafted archtop guitar check out Ron’s work.
