Jason Lollar is at it again over there on Vashon Island in Washington. This guy always comes up with the coolest pickups and they all sound great! So here is the skinny on his latest creation.
Jason says that the new model is an exact copy of the Supro-Valco-National string-through steel guitar pickup as used on Ry Cooder’s “Coodercaster.” The pickup is humbucking so there is no noise & hum but retains the sound of a single coil. The output is remarkably high with the clarity of a lower output pickup. There is a steel plate that goes over the guitar strings which spreads the magnetic field to surround the strings. This increases the pickup’s sensitivity and reduces magnetic pull on the strings, which increases sustain.
The pickup features Alnico 5 magnets, dual split coil humbucking construction with adjustable poles. The new model pickup is made without the built-in bridge which was all one unit on the original. This allows it to be mounted on almost any guitar. The pickup requires a small 1/8″ deep route or can be surface mounted on the top of a pickguard. For guitars with tall bridges, there are shims to raise the pickup to the proper height.
Jason’s products always deliver the goods. every Lollar pickup I have ever heard sounded great and had a dynamic feel to them. Click here to visit Lollar pickups for more information and pricing.
