Lollar pickups announces the release of a new single coil pickup model, designed to fit into a standard humbucker rout. The SCFH offers a unique single coil sound, while sharing some of the tonal characteristics of Lollar’s acclaimed P-90 style pickups.Jason Lollar, the company’s founder, explains. “I have yet to find anyone that makes a P-90 (that fits in a humbucker cover) that sounds exactly like a P-90. Part of the tone of the P-90 is that it has a low, wide coil, approximately ½” wide on each side of the pole pieces. We kept as much of the P-90 coil geometry as possible by keeping the coil low and using a special wire gauge.”
“So, I have a humbucker size, single coil set. They have as much output as a typical P-90, but a touch less midrange. They have a good sound of their own… I particularly like the bridge pickup. It can really rip and keep up with a good humbucker. The neck pickup stays clear and warm…it’s very musical.”
